?Smart? Irrigation Controllers Recommended for Obama?s Stimulus Package.
‘Smart’ irrigation controllers are part of the recommendations included in the “Transforming Water: Water Efficiency as Stimulus and Long-Term Investment” Position Paper prepared for the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) in the U.S. AWE prepared the Position Paper for U.S. President-Elect Obama’s transition team.

The Position Paper recommended investments in ‘smart’ irrigation controllers and real-time efficiency monitoring for outdoor water use efficiency. The intent of the paper is to show that water efficiency programs yield jobs, water savings and other economic benefits, and will be a cost-effective investment to consider for the stimulus package.
The Obama transition team has reported that this document is already being used to help inform future national policy. Investing in water/energy efficiency programs now will, over the longer term, help advance national energy policy, promote sustainable resource use, contribute towards Green House Gas emissions reduction, and lessen mounting regional conflicts over water resources.
